Dr. Canavan is a native of Chicago, Illinois and attended Cornell University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology & Society with Distinction in All Subjects. She then received her M.D. from Weill Medical College of Cornell University. From there, she moved to Connecticut where she completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale University School of Medicine. While there, she was honored to be named Chief Medical Resident. After completing her residency, Dr. Canavan joined the Yale University School of Medicine’s Department of Digestive Diseases where she completed her fellowship.
Her special interests include women’s issues in gastroenterology, colorectal cancer prevention and treatment, disorders of the gallbladder and biliary tract and celiac disease.
Dr. Canavan is a Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine, a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
